EBOOST Your Immune System

September 22, 2009

EBOOST your Immune SystemFall is approaching and with it come all the wonderful sights and smells of the season: leaves changing color, a nip in the air, the smell of wood burning in fireplaces, the line of coughing, sneezing people at the doctor’s office… Wait. Run that last one by me again?

If there’s one feature of this season that none of us look forward to it’s the endless round of colds and flu. Around this time every year, newspapers and magazines are full of articles about ways to boost your immune system and ward off illness. Here are some of the most proven tips:

  1. Get enough sleep
Sleep has been linked to balanced hormone levels, weight maintenance, focus, mood and healthy skin.
  2. Wash your hands
Wash for 15-20 seconds before eating or preparing food, and after coughing or sneezing, going to the bathroom, or touching surfaces in highly populated areas. Make sure you use warm water and soap.
  3. Exercise
Physical activity stimulates the body’s production of T-cells, a kind of white blood cell that guards against infection. Working out for around 30 minutes on most days should give your immune system a boost. As an added benefit, you’ll lose weight, increase your energy level and clear your skin.
  4. Reduce stress
Your body’s response to stress is to secrete more cortisol. Over time, this can lead to all kinds of health problems, including lowered immunity.
  5. Eat less refined sugar
A single 12-oz can of regular soda contains about 100 grams of sugar. That’s enough to reduce the ability of white blood cells to kill germs by 40% for up to 5 hours! (EBOOST contains no refined sugar.)
  6. Take herbs and supplements
    Enter EBOOST!

In addition to being a superb energy booster, EBOOST contains many vitamins and herbs that play an important role in getting your immune system ready to face the seasonal onslaught. Let’s take a look, shall we? That’s a rhetorical question. I’m the writer, so we’re GOING to look. :)

  • Vitamin C
Enhances the body’s resistance to many different diseases. Strengthens the immune system by stimulating the activity of antibodies and immune system cells.
  • Niacin
Speeds the metabolism, causing increased tolerance to the cold.
  • Vitamin B6
Helps maintain the health of the thymus, spleen and lymph nodes. Increases antibody production and increases immune response.
  • Folate (folic acid)
Increases T-cell production and mitogen response (cell division to increase the immune response).
  • Zinc
Aids in the development and activation of T-lymphocytes. Zinc deficiency is associated with increased susceptibility to pneumonia and other infections.
  • Selenium
Helps the production of antioxidant enzymes. Deficiencey contributes to autoimmune diseases by making the body more susceptible to stress and disease.
  • Green tea leaf extract
Rich in antioxidants called catechins. When Canadian researchers added green tea to lab samples of the adenovirus (one of many that causes colds), the virus’ ability to replicate was severely inhibited. Likewise, researchers in South Korea found that green tea can stop the influenza virus from replicating.
  • Astragalus
Used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Helps protect the body against physical, mental and emotional stress. Prevents colds and upper respiratory infections.

So there you have it: regular doses of EBOOST will turn your immune system into a virus-fighting machine! But don’t take our word for it: try some yourself and leave the doctor’s waiting room to those other poor non-boosted folks.

Happy fall!

EBOOST Supports Participants in Bike MS

September 21, 2009

Most of you have heard of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another. Today, new treatments and advances in research are giving new hope to people affected by the disease.

Secret weapons for looking sharp at the office

Your office HVAC system is good for a lot of things (like circulating germs and carrying the aroma of street meat up into your office), but the dry, stale, polluted air wreaks havoc on your skin and your well-being. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency has found that indoor air is up to five times more polluted than outdoor air, and studies show that office workers experience headaches from poor ventilation. Even if you haven’t pulled an all-nighter, the odds are stacked against your looking and feeling your best at work. That’s where a well-stocked desk drawer comes in (and no, not stocked like the office of Mad Men‘s Don Draper). Here are the only 10 products you need.

EBOOST

Toronto Life’s List of Film Festival Essentials

September 11, 2009

From Toronto Life magazine:

TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2009

Spill it: Our six TIFF essentials (so far)

TIFF Bag with EBOOST

Walk softly and carry a big bag: the official motto of a TIFF survivalist. We chose a double-duty Danier bag ($199)—it’s big enough to fit our laptop, but also folds over into handbag size at night. Here, we spill its sundry necessities.

1. BlackBerry, of course, but don’t forget the charger either.

2. eBoost vitamins promise energy, immunity, recovery and focus—in short, everything we need to maintain the will to wake up. Sure, the outsized tablets are made to dissolve in water, but that’s just TIFF code for vodka. Drop one in a drink, and watch it turn orange and bubbly. It’s like swallowing a smile to hide a multitude of sins.

3. We should really keep our agenda hidden, but whatever.

4. You never know when your next free meal will show up, and if you don’t stow snacks—we live on Velbars, just like the ones our mothers packed us as kids—you risk pulling a Marilyn Manson.

5. A compact mirror can be used for legal things, too, like touch-ups in the backs of cabs or to sneak rear-view peeks at celebs at Starbucks.

6. By day three, we predict that our wash-and-go hair will become just-go hair. Thank Greg May Hair for formulating this “dry clean only” shampoo, a powder spray that absorbs into the scalp, making grease disappear. We’re tempted to spray it on Nicolas Cage.

What a girl needs: The state of our bag on day one
